SPACE OWL

https://instagram.com/spaceowlband/ https://instagram.com/spaceowlband/ http://arijoshua.com

Space Owl is: Ari Joshua (guitar, vocals) Bob Lovelace (bass, vocals) David Appelbaum (keys, vocals) Jeremy Shanok (drums, vocals)

We play original psychedelic rock music - with occasional covers thrown in to honor the musical tradition that we love. In some of our first shows, we played only the music of the Grateful Dead. Then, wanting to branch out, we launched a series of unique show formats, including “Space Owl plays Dylan” and “Space Owl plays Hendrix”, that as you might guess featured only Dylan and Hendrix covers. Expanding further still, we then grew the show format to feature a collection of Dylan, Hendrix, Dead, and original music.

FRESH TRACK

Fresh track features some of Portland's finest musical talent, including members from Yak Attack, Shafty, World's Finest, Mars Retrieval Unit, and more. The band delivers an explosive blend of rock, funk, and synth driven dance music. Drawing from many different influences, you can expect high energy jams, catchy dance grooves, and the occasional prog rock riff to keep the audience on their toes. Fresh off of their debut release, Hit Play, the band is tight-knit and ready to make crowds move. Featuring: Dave Dernovsek (Yak Attack), Brett McConnell (Shafty), Murray Gusseck, Alex Weinberg (World's Finest, Shafty), and Darian Anthony Patrick (Dirty Revival). In 2018, Fresh Track released their debut album, took part in the Artist in Residency series at the Goodfoot for multiple months, made an appearance at Beltane Fest, and graced the stage at Star Theater. In 2019 Fresh Track is poised to bring their mix of infectious dance grooves to regional audiences in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

HOPSOL

HopSol is a collective of 9 performers-turned-producers that pride themselves on creating whatever feels true to them in any given moment in their studio, be it funk, hiphop, psychedelic rock, or a sonic blend of them all. HopSol's high energy live performance will take you from a dense psychedelic trance, to a full blown bass-induced-boogie, to a gritty HipHop cypher delivered by their featured vocalist(s), “Ant” and “SeannyCee”. At their core, HopSol is a punch-packing trio consisting of guitar, drums, and bass/keys. With the addition of a tenor saxophonist and auxiliary percussionist, HopSol will surely deliver a seamless set that is guaranteed to leave you humming melodies and tapping feet until the next.

10.26 Friday (Prog Rock / Instrumental Rock) Nectar & The PBJ Present: CONSIDER THE SOURCE with Spyn Reset Ari Joshua Band $11adv / $15dos 8pm doors 21+

High Dive 513 N 36th St

NYC trio Consider the Source defy easy description. If intergalactic beings of pure energy, after initiation into an order of whirling dervishes, built some kind of pan-dimensional booty-shaking engine, powered by psychedelics and abstract math, it’d probably just sound like a CTS tribute band. Drawing from progressive rock, fusion and jazz, with alien sounds soaked in Indian and Middle Eastern styles, CTS blends disparate parts into a striking, utterly original whole. Dubbed “Sci-Fi Middle Eastern Fusion”, the band’s music strikes a rare balance between cerebral and emotional, intellectual and primal. A relentless touring schedule has won the band a fervent following from California to Israel, with fans ranging from jam-band hippies and jazz cats to corpse-painted headbangers and prog geeks. Formed in 2004, Consider the Source features Gabriel Marin on fretless double-neck guitar, bassist John Ferrara, and drummer/percussionist Jeff Mann. Called “the guiding light for his generation of six-stringers”, Marin channels the mystical fury of McLaughlin and Coltrane into wailing melodies, kaleidoscopic soundscapes and boneshaking riffs. With a background in classical musics both Eurpoean and Indian, and an instinct for avant-jazz and destructive metal, Marin’s hypnotic fusion of styles is ever unpredictable. Ferrara’s propulsive, percussive attack, equally suited to simple grooves and impossible chords, can ground the music or launch it into space. His madcap gumbo of slap bass, Indian rhythms, earthy minimalism and complex tapping constantly pushes into strange new worlds, whilst still dropping thick booty-clap beats. Underneath them lies Mann’s rolling thunder; dense rhythmic architecture built from pure swagger and bounce. Half double-bass prog-metal, half crackle-pop Buddy Rich swing, with African and Balkan swirls, Mann’s muscular, freewheeling polyrhythms are the engine fuel for Consider’s multiversal mischief. Even when not improvising, Consider’s music is always a conversation, a roiling stew of dynamic interplay. Each member of Consider the Source alternately leads and follows, spars and assists; in any single song, alliances are made and broken, bargains struck and divorces finalized. Touring from coast to coast, as well as Europe and the Middle East, has not only earned the band thousands of fans, but has allowed them to perform with a wide variety of well-known artists, including Victor Wooten, Wayne Krantz, King Crimson Projekt, Kris Myers (Umphrey’s McGee), Wyclef Jean, Andy Statman, Matt Darriau (Paradox Trio), Oteil Burbridge, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Dumpstaphunk, Keller Williams, George Porter, Jr., Jeff Sipe, Panzerballet (Germany), Eatliz (Israel), Freak Kitchen (Sweden), Morglbl (France), and many others. They have performed at numerous festivals and events, including Burning Man, Gathering of the Vibes, the NYC Fretless Guitar Festival, Catskill Chill, Sun Seekers Ball (Canada), Aura Music & Arts Festival (Florida), Jazz Fest (New Orleans), Head For The Hills Festival & SXSW (Texas), Rootwire (Ohio), and the NYC Gypsy Festival. The band’s latest release, “World War Trio (Parts 2 & 3)” (2016) is available at considerthesourcemusic.bandcamp.com.

Brothers Gow + Northern Thorns + Space Owl

The High Dive

10/2 Doors: 8:00 pm / Show: 8:00 pm (event ends at 2:00 am) $6 advance / $8 day of show

Brothers Gow Situated between deep improvisational musicianship and dynamic, original songwriting, Brothers Gow brings to the stage an imaginative style of modern rock, progressive funk and unpredictable retro-electronic jams. Through an exploration in lively and evolving sound, Brothers Gow has managed to stay true to its roots, which are found in the vibrant vocal styles and extensive range of front men Kyle Merrill (guitar/vocals) and Ethan Wade (bass/vocals). Merrill's emotional solos in tandem with skilled shredding are balanced by the avant-garde bass musings and riff writing of Wade. Brothers Gow is rounded out by wild syncopation and explosive grooves from drummer Nathan Walsh-Haines, and the exploratory and harmonic subtleties of keyboardist Alex Mello who joined the lineup in early 2018.

Though not brothers by blood, Brothers Gow is a brotherhood by time and circumstance, trials and travels, friendship and change. Member departures at the end of 2017 placed the future of the band on hold, soon followed by a major back injury sustained by Walsh-Haines that prompted the cancellation of a lengthy tour. Yet perseverance prevailed and today, Brothers Gow is prepared for a return to the road in the fall of 2018 that will take them through eight western states.

As the band re-emerges, the fragility and preciousness of doing what you love as part of a true brotherhood isn't lost on them – experience Brothers Gow live in your city and let the reinvigorated lineup take you on a captivating sonic tour. Northern Thorns

Northern Thorns Northern Thorns is a guitar-driven dance rock band from Seattle, founded in 2014 by drummer and composer Adam Kozie. First influenced by the golden age of cavacha, rumba rock and hard soukous bands of the mid to late 1970's in the two Congos, we aim to get stuck in your head on the first listen.

Space Owl Psychedelic space-rock from Seattle featuring Ari Joshua & friends.
